Self-Drive Cars in Trivandrum — Rent Without a Driver

How self-drive works in Trivandrum

Pick the car, bring your licence and ID, leave a refundable deposit, take the keys — pickup or doorstep and airport delivery from our Sreekariyam hub.

Self-drive means exactly that: you take the keys and we stay at the garage. Mango Cabs has rented cars across Trivandrum since 2005, and self-drive is one of the ways we do it — a well-maintained car, no chauffeur, your route and your pace.

It runs end to end like this. You pick the car for the trip, bring a valid driving licence and a government photo ID, and leave a refundable security deposit. Then you drive off — from our Sreekariyam hub, or we bring the car to your door, your hotel, or Trivandrum airport. A weekend at Varkala, a Munnar drive, a fortnight of errands around the city — the car is yours for the duration.

We don't publish point rates, run surge pricing, or add festival markups. Self-drive pricing is shaped by the car, the number of days, and the kilometres you plan — message the trip on WhatsApp and a transparent quote lands in about ten minutes. The figure on WhatsApp is the figure on the invoice.

What you bring

Licence, ID and the refundable deposit

Self-drive rental has a short, standard checklist — the same one every reputable operator asks for. Bring these and you're on the road. Amounts and specifics are confirmed on your WhatsApp quote.

What you needWhy
A valid driving licence, held at least a yearYou're the driver — it's the licence on record for the rental
A government photo ID (Aadhaar / passport / voter ID)Standard KYC for the rental agreement
A refundable security depositHeld for the rental, returned after the car is checked back in
Minimum age (confirmed on booking)Insurance requirement for self-drive

Visiting from outside India? An International Driving Permit alongside your home-country licence works — mention it on WhatsApp and we'll confirm what to carry. These are flags, not fees: the deposit amount depends on the car and lands on your WhatsApp confirmation before you book.

The fleet

The self-drive fleet — hatchback to 7-seater

Pick the car by the trip and the terrain, not by a price sticker. The city and the coast are happy in a hatchback; the hills and the long inter-state runs want a diesel SUV; a family of six or seven wants the XUV700.

  • Hatchback (Swift and similar) — the city-and-coast car. Easy to park at Kovalam, light on fuel, right for one or two people and a couple of bags.
  • Sedan — more boot and highway comfort for a small family or an airport run with luggage.
  • SUV (Thar) — for the Munnar and Wayanad ghat roads and anywhere the road stops being flat.
  • 7-seater (XUV700) — seven seats plus boot, for group trips and inter-state runs.

Every self-drive car leaves the Sreekariyam garage checked, clean, and AC-tested. Tell us the trip and the group size on WhatsApp and we'll say honestly which car fits — we don't upsell you into a bigger car than the trip needs.

What's inside, what's extra

Fuel, kilometres and what's on you

With self-drive, you're the driver — so a few things that sit inside a chauffeur package move onto you. Here's the honest split, no surprises.

Inside the rentalOn you (you're driving)
A checked, insured, well-maintained carFuel (return it as agreed — full-to-full or as-driven, confirmed on booking)
Standard insurance coverTolls and parking on your route
A daily kilometre allowanceKilometres beyond the daily allowance (per-extra-km confirmed on your quote)
24/7 phone support if anything goes wrongInter-state permit if you cross into Tamil Nadu or Karnataka (₹2,500–₹4,500, KMVD government rate — not our charge)

We don't publish a rate card because the honest number depends on your car, your days, and your kilometres. WhatsApp the plan; the quote is transparent and it's the same figure you'll see on the invoice.

Deposit & documents, plainly

What shapes your self-drive price

There's no fixed rate card for self-drive, and there's an honest reason: the number genuinely depends on your trip. Three things move it, and none of them is a surge or a festival markup.

  • The car— a hatchback and a seven-seat SUV don't cost the same to run, and the refundable deposit tracks the vehicle too.
  • The days — self-drive is a day-rental, so a weekend and a fortnight are different quotes.
  • The kilometres — a daily allowance is inside the rental; a long inter-state loop plans for more, at the per-extra-km rate on your quote.

The security deposit is refundable, held for the rental and returned after the car is checked back in. You see the amount on your WhatsApp quote before you book — no surge, no counter surprise. Message the trip and a transparent quote comes back in about ten minutes.

Prefer a driver?

Rather not drive? We'll drive you

Plenty of people searching for a self-drive car actually want a driver once they think about the ghat bends or where to park at the temple — and that's a fair call. Mango Cabs runs a full chauffeur fleet too, with the same 20+ years on Kerala's roads and the same no-surge, quote-equals-invoice promise.

Not sure which way to go? We wrote the honest comparison — when self-drive wins, when a chauffeur wins, and how the cost-shape differs — so you can pick with your eyes open.
