12-Seater Tempo Traveller Hire in Kerala — Trivandrum Day-Rental Guide

Day-rental only

How 12-seater Tempo Traveller hire works in Kerala

Per-day package: driver bata, fuel, 5% GST inside. Inter-state permit, parking, toll, night halt at actuals.

The 12-seater Tempo Traveller is the configuration Mango Cabs books most for Kerala-tour groups of eight to twelve people — and it has been since 2005. For hire with a chauffeur from our Trivandrum office, not for sale from a chassis dealer. WhatsApp confirms in about ten minutes.

The 12-seater is a day-rental vehicle. There are no hourly Tempo Traveller bookings, because the chassis size and fuel cost do not make sense for short city runs. The fare is a per-day package: driver bata, fuel, and 5% GST are inside the package; inter-state permit (if you cross into Tamil Nadu or Karnataka), parking, toll where applicable, and night halt are billed at actuals on the invoice.

We don't publish point fares, run surge pricing, festival multipliers, or airport-zone markups. Pricing is shaped by trip duration, route, season, diesel price, KMTWWF-regulated driver bata, and inter-state permit fees (where applicable). WhatsApp the trip brief and the transparent quote lands in about ten minutes — the figure on WhatsApp is the figure on the invoice. For the full menu including the 14, 17, and 26-seater alternatives, see the full Tempo Traveller hire menu in Kerala.

Pricing transparency

What's inside the fare, what's billed at actuals

Driver bata, fuel, 5% GST, and AC running through the entire trip are inside the day-rental package; inter-state permit, parking, toll where applicable, and night halt are billed at actuals on the invoice. The 5% GST is the rate per the CGST Act 2017 for cab service. Inter-state tourist-vehicle permits are issued by the Kerala State Transport Authority and typically run ₹2,500–₹4,500 per trip (KMVD government rate, not our pricing) depending on duration and the state crossed. We sort the permit 48 hours before departure and put the figure on your WhatsApp confirmation before the day of the trip — the driver handles the paperwork at the checkpost while passengers stay in the vehicle.

Included in the packageBilled at actuals
Driver bata (chauffeur's daily allowance, KMTWWF-regulated)Inter-state permit (Tamil Nadu / Karnataka, ~₹2,500–₹4,500 — KMVD government rate)
Fuel (diesel)Parking
5% GST per CGST Act 2017Toll where applicable
AC running through the tripNight halt (driver accommodation when overnighting outside Trivandrum)
Push-back seats + individual AC vents + audio systemAdditional kilometres beyond the daily km allowance (per-extra-km rate confirmed on your WhatsApp quote)

The figure on WhatsApp is the figure on the invoice. We do not run surge pricing, festival multipliers, or airport-zone markups — every line on the invoice traces back to either the transparent WhatsApp quote or to one of the at-actuals items above.

Sizing

Is the 12-seater enough? Honest sizing guide

Yes for single-destination trips with one bag per passenger; conservatively no for multi-day Kerala loops with luggage and hotel changes — step up to the 14-seater. The 12-seater Tempo Traveller is built on the Force Traveller chassis (also available in the newer premium Force Urbania variant). It seats twelve passengers in push-back seats with individual AC vents and a working audio system. The boot is a four-bag bay sized for one mid-size soft bag per seat. On a flat single-destination trip — a wedding-day guest transfer, a corporate offsite to Kovalam, a day-out to Varkala — twelve adults with one bag each fits cleanly.

The honest call is on multi-day Kerala loops. On a 5–6 day Kovalam → Alleppey → Munnar circuit with hotel changes, eight to ten adults with two bags each is the comfortable real-world load for a 12-seater. The boot fills before the seats do. We have been running this exact trip for twenty-one years and the boot is the variable we see groups misjudge, not the seat count. If your group is twelve adults and the trip is five days plus, the conservative call is a 14-seater (same chassis, two more seats configured into the cabin) for the extra boot capacity. For groups bigger than fourteen, see the comparison below.

Compare configurations

12-seater vs 14-seater vs 17-seater — which one for which trip

Pick the 12-seater for groups of 8–12 with one bag each on a single-destination trip; the 14-seater for 12 passengers on multi-day loops with luggage, or for 13–14 pax; the 17-seater for 15–17 pax including school groups, joint families, and pilgrimages. The Force Traveller chassis is shared across all three sizes; what changes is the cabin configuration and the boot capacity. Quick decision rule: if the count is twelve, the trip is two days or less, and bags are one each — book the 12-seater. If the count is twelve, the trip is three days or more, and bags will be two each by the end — step up to a 14-seater for the boot.

Itinerary lab

Kerala tours we run most in the 12-seater

The 12-seater Tempo Traveller is the most-booked configuration for our 5–6 day Kovalam–Alleppey–Munnar loops out of Trivandrum. Three itineraries below are real trips our drivers run every week. The 12-seater traveller for Kerala tour use case sits squarely in this band — family groups of eight to twelve booking a chauffeur-driven Kerala loop.

5-day Trivandrum → Kovalam → Alleppey → Munnar loop

The most-booked 12-seater itinerary out of Trivandrum. Day one starts at Kovalam (the beach, the Light House, lunch at the lighthouse-side restaurants), day two and three move to the Alleppey houseboat trip for the backwaters, day four climbs to Munnar via the Trivandrum-to-Munnar route. Leaving Munnar by 6 a.m. on day five lands the group back in Trivandrum mid-afternoon. On the Munnar leg we time the departure to clear the afternoon mist over the Munnar tea estates — Munnar is roughly 270 km from Trivandrum, about a six-hour drive, and the mist clears by 11 a.m., so a 6 a.m. departure puts you on the estates ahead of the haze.

5, 7, and 10-day loops with pacing, hotel-change cadence, and the boot-fills-before-seats rule applied.

7-day Kerala loop — adds Thekkady and a Wayanad option

The 5-day loop plus the Periyar wildlife sanctuary near Thekkady, with a Wayanad extension to the north for groups that want an extra hill station. The Wayanad leg routes via Kochi → Thrissur → Kozhikode and is usually overnighted. On a 7-day loop a 12-seater is borderline for twelve adults — we will often recommend the 14-seater on this length once the hotel-change count crosses three.

10-day Kerala + Tamil Nadu inter-state extension

The 7-day loop plus a Madurai and Kanyakumari extension across the Tamil Nadu border. Inter-state permits apply on this itinerary; we sort the paperwork 48 hours before the trip.

Operator credentials

The Trivandrum-anchor advantage (21-year operator)

Mango Cabs operates approximately 1,000 vehicles from Trivandrum since 2005 — the largest organised fleet operating from the Trivandrum end of Kerala. Twenty-one years of running these trips out of the same office means our drivers know the Munnar ghat-road washouts in monsoon, the Alleppey houseboat-jetty windows, and the inter-state checkpost queue patterns. We are a chauffeur-driven cab operator — not a marketplace, not an aggregator, not a vehicle dealer. The customer's relationship is with Mango Cabs directly. Read more on our 21-year operating history.

Our garage is at Sreekariyam — separate from the Edapazhanji office — where the 12-seater fleet stages and where AC is tested before each trip leaves. Drivers are full-time chauffeurs (not gig-shift), police-verified, with working English on top of Malayalam and Tamil. Inter-state tourist-vehicle permits are issued by the Kerala State Transport Authority; driver bata follows the KMTWWF schedule.
